Peony Plants: In addition to herbaceous peonies, there are also tree peonies and Itoh peonies (a hybrid of the two). Tree peonies have a woody structure and do not die back to the ground in winter. Itoh peonies, or intersectional hybrids, have the large flowers and leaf shape of tree peonies but die back to the ground like herbaceous peonies.
